History

Origins & Expansion

The roots of Ew Kee Tea trace back to 1890 in Fujian Province’s Anxi region.

Founded by Wang Jinghui, the business began as tea farm.

Wang Jinghui’s s grandson, Wang Xiaojin, also known as Khun Pian Sae Ong , expanded the business to Taiwan, capitalizing on the booming tea export market.

The strategic location near the Danshui River facilitated efficient transportation and export.

1936

By 1936, due to the prosperous export of Taiwanese tea leaves, the business expanded its reach, establishing a significant presence in Thailand.

The company’s reputation for high-quality tea products grew, making “Wang Youji Tea House” a renowned name in the tea industry.

1950

In 1950, Khun Pian Sae Ong, who was then a Hokkien immigrant to Thailand, established Ong Ew Kee Tea Trading Co. in Bangkok, extending the family business’s reach.

He setup two tea shop branches, one located in Sao Chingcha (Giant Swing), with another branch open in Charoen Krung Road.

Khun Pian also played a significant role in Thailand’s tea industry, serving as a president of Thailand’s Tea Association.

Upon Khun Pian’s passing in 1967, the Ong Ew Kee Tea family donated funds to build a ceremonial hall at Wat Thad Thong, Bangkok.
